The Tribal Technical Assistance Program is part of a nationwide effort sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The intention of TTAP is to relate the latest technology and information on tribal roads and bridges, tourism and recreation, and related economic development to tribal transportation and planning personnel.
TTAP provides technology transfer through training workshops, a quarterly newsletter, and the operation of free publication and videotape training libraries.

Seat belt use in 2009 stood at 84 percent, a gain from 83 percent use in 2008. This result is from the National Occupant Protection Use Survey (NOPUS) which is the only survey that provides nationwide probability-based observed data on seat belt use in the United States. The NOPUS is conducted annually by the National Center for Statistics and Analysis of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Two mobile breath alcohol testing vehicles intended to help reduce the number of alcohol-related fatalities on tribal lands are headed for Montana. Officials say the BAT-mobiles that cost $300,000 each will be delivered to the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services in Billings in early November.

The purpose of this notice is to announce the proposed FY 2010 STEP implementation strategy in anticipation that the FHWA is likely to receive resources for national research on issues related to environment and planning as a part of future transportation legislation and to request suggested lines of research for FY 2010 via the STEP Web site at: http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/hep/step/index.htm. Stakeholder feedback from the STEP Web site provides useful research ideas and helps to prevent redundant areas of research, saving valuable research funds.
