The conference will bring together transportation planners, economic development professionals, local officials, state DOT staff and stakeholders from rural and small metropolitan areas across the nation for three days of learning and networking with peers. Abstracts that market specific products, vendors or services will not be accepted. Except in very special circumstances, all accepted conference speakers must register and will receive the early bird registration discount.
Conference sessions may cover such topics as transportation policy, economic development, climate change, safety, technology applications, developing relationships with state DOTs, rural public transportation, land use, freight and intermodal planning, partnerships between RPOs and MPOs and many other issues.
In addition, participants will have the chance to participate in mobile workshops and networking receptions, including the Excellence in Regional Transportation Awards Showcase and Reception, highlighting the work of organizations that win the 2009 Excellence Award. This year, attendees will have a special opportunity to network with transportation professionals from larger metropolitan areas as well, as the Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations (AMPO) Annual Meeting will be held in Savannah at the same time.
The conference is sponsored by the Development District Association of Appalachia, Appalachian Regional Commission, Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations, Federal Highway Administration, Federal Transit Administration, Mo-Kan Regional Council, National Association of Development Organizations and NADO Research Foundation, RPO America, and Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission.
